NATHAN DOUGLAS says he stands “absolutely no chance in hell” of making Team GB for the Rio 2016 Olympics if he can’t achieve a second triple jump qualifying mark before the selection deadline on July 11.
Douglas won his first national outdoor title in nine years at the Alexander Stadium last month with a season’s best effort of 16.58m – 27cm short of the 16.85m necessary to book him his seat on the plane to Brazil.
The 33-year-old, who sits third on the all-time British list with a 17.64m jump from 2005, currently has one of the two standards required after jumping 16.94m at the British championships last year, but he feels recent selection history shows he’s unlikely to get a discretionary call-up unless he fulfils the standard set.
