WHEN it comes to Britain’s No.1 sporting legend, the following names spring to mind – Bobby Moore, Steve Redgrave, Andy Murray, Bradley Wiggins, Bobby Charlton, Ian Botham, Seb Coe and Daley Thompson. It is quite a list and now includes Mo Farah.
Unlike many of the names above, Farah excels in a sport which everyone has a crack at during some stage of their life. Not everyone plays cricket or tennis or rides a bicycle, for example, but every child is tested for their speed and stamina in a footrace at school. So the preliminary heats for the 5000m and 10,000m races that Farah has now won at two Olympics effectively started years ago with millions of kids charging around bumpy fields on school sports day in every corner of the planet.
