BACK IN 2004, the British marathon runner Bill Adcocks tentatively published his life story. Brilliantly ghost-written by AW’s former news editor, Trevor Frecknall, it told the tale of a Coventry gas-fitter whose 2:11:07 in the Athens Marathon survived as a course record for 35 years.
