MEN’S JAVELIN – RIO FORM GUIDE
THE anticipated favourite based on 2015 form is world champion Julius Yego.
The Kenyan was only 12th in London 2012, but won his title in Beijing with a 92.72m throw and was a greatly improved athlete last year.

Defending champion Keshorn Walcott set a four-metre PB last year and went over 90 metres but he has failed to qualify for the last two world finals after his shock London victory.
Germany’s Thomas Rohler was fourth in Beijing and has been on the upward curve for the last six years.
Jakub Vadlejch is the April world leader this year with 85.54m, but has never previously qualified for a global final.
Tero Pitkamaki’s best throw was 11 years ago but he is remarkably consistent now. The 2007 world champion gained a bronze medal in Beijing, was second in the 2013 World Championships and threw 89 metres last year.
The other leading Finn, Antti Ruuskanen, was third In London, has made successive four World finals and has a good temperament.
Ihab Abdelrahman was second in Beijing and has been around the 88-metre mark the last few years and will be favoured for a rare medal for Egypt.
The 2013 world champion, Vitezslav Vesely, was fourth in London but only eighth in Beijing and keen to show he is still capable of mixing it with the very best.

THERE was no javelin in the first few Olympics, though a freestyle event was included in the 1906 Games in Athens.
