ON THE path to success in sport, some athletes believe that barriers such as injury and illness are a necessary evil. What matters, psychologists have found, is not the obstacles themselves, but the way they are hurdled.
In a study at the University of Central Lancashire, interviews were carried out with elite athletes from various sports with the objective being to find distinguishing characteristics between those who reached the top, the good, and those who didn’t quite make elite level.
