GREG RUTHERFORD was quizzed more about his dance moves on Strictly Come Dancing than his long jumping at last Saturday’s Great North CityGames, but the world champion hopes there will be a knock-on effect with people taking more interest in his speciality sport.
“More people seemed to be interested in Strictly than jumping, funnily enough,” he smiled. “Hopefully there will be a crossover and more people can take an interest in long jumping.”
Rutherford did not stop smiling all weekend despite being exhausted from all the dance practice. This included a dance session the night before his CityGames long jump competition and then straight after the CityGames finished.
