THE British Athletics League (BAL) has been accused of trying to follow an “oppressive and draconian” line after Newquay & Par AC were told they would not be permitted to use under-17 athletes next season.
The rules of the BAL, the UK’s top men’s domestic league, state there are no formal rules on the participation of under-17s.
Larry Garnham, coach at Newquay & Par – a Cornish club that gained promotion into BAL division four in 2012 and were promoted to division two this year – was behind the move to stop the league putting in place restrictions three years ago.
