IAN STEWART told AW only a matter of weeks ago that he was fearful for the state of British marathon running; a concern backed up by the statistics displayed just one week previous.

The former head of endurance and UK Athletics is throwing his weight behind the Birmingham International Marathon and it could prove to be a shot in the arm for the sport in Great Britain, and as a man with a keen awareness of the inner workings of the national governing body, let alone his own international experience, his voice is an authoritative one.
