SHAUNAE MILLER LAUNCHES HERSELF TO 400M VICTORY
400M
WITH THE finish in sight, Shaunae Miller had one of the most decorated sprinters in history hunting her down, but she wasn’t prepared to give up on gold without a fight.

Shaunae Miller hurls herself across the line successfully in a desperate bid for victory
Lunging at the line, the 22-year-old dived over it to deny Allyson Felix a record fifth Olympic athletics title and go one better than the world silver she claimed behind the American in Beijing 12 months ago, clocking a 49.44 personal best to Felix’s 49.51 – the second quickest time of her impressive career. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson matched her medal colour from last year’s Worlds as she ran 49.85 for bronze.
There were many thrills and spills on the fourth evening of athletics action, which included that dramatic finish to the women’s 400m final. Miller had pulled up with injury in her heat in London four years ago but, putting that heartbreak behind her, she went into the competition with a winning mentality which paid off.
Running 51.16 to take her heat and then 49.91 to finish behind Felix in their semi-final, the Bahamian sprinter went on to shave more than a tenth off her personal best set earlier this summer with the quickest time in the world this year.
