A MINTEL survey of 2000 people revealed that 31% of people with a household income of more than £50,000 have purchased energy bars, sports drinks or other performance nutrition products in the last three months.
Of the highest earners, 15% had consumed protein bars or powders compared with a 9% average, while 12% bought energy bars and sportspecific vitamin supplements. UK consumers spent £66m on sports nutrition products last year, an increase of 27% from sales in 2013.
