TAYLOR’S GOLDEN CHANGE

TRIPLE JUMP
THERE was a feeling of déjà vu as the one-two result from London 2012 was repeated. The only difference was the stadium in Rio was nowhere near as full as London and the final unusually took place during a morning session.
Something else changed, too. It wasn’t as easy to notice, but the winner, Christian Taylor, has swapped take-off feet in the past four years. He did this due to injury and likens it to learning to write with his other hand.
Not that it affected the result. The 26-year-old’s gold medalwinning 17.86m leap came in the first round.

Will Claye: second again
Similarly, runner-up and fellow American Will Claye’s 17.76m for silver came with his first jump. Ditto Bin Dong’s 17.58m opener earned the Chinese athlete bronze.
