JUST listening to the seemingly endless stream of engagements almost leaves you feeling out of breath. But bouncing from continent to continent, city to city, meeting to meeting goes with the territory of being president of the IAAF.

“It’s fine. It’s my world. Welcome to my world,” grins Lord Sebastian Coe amid an itinerary which had included Rio, Zurich, Brussels and Newcastle among other places.

He’s no stranger to a packed diary of course but, arguably, never before has he had his work cut out to such a degree. Since taking leadership of the sport at which he so excelled last August, the firefighting has been almost relentless.

The WADA report which described corruption as being “embedded” in the sport, the demise of predecessor Lamine Diack, his own relationship with Diack’s son Papa and allegations he knew all about the dark arts at play – those are just some of the battles Coe has contended with over these past months.
