BRITISH ATHLETICS’ performance director Neil Black has heaped the pressure on a GB team jam-packed with quality ahead of the European Championships in Amsterdam in one week’s time, demanding finals from all athletes selected.
Used as Olympic preparation or qualification for some and experience for others, Black is expecting exceptional results.
“We have picked our biggest team ever for the European Championships and given everyone the best possible chance to put themselves in the frame for the Olympics in Rio,” Black said.
“We expect every athlete to make their individual final, with many challenging for places on the podium.”
Among the most intriguing subplots to emerge from the British championships in Birmingham (see AW’s coverage on p6-29) is the battle for the final men’s 200m place between British No.1 and all-time No.2 Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and last year’s world champs finalist Zharnel Hughes.
