Tacos, sombreros, the cartoon mouse Speedy Gonzales — oh, and the baddie in The Magnificent Seven. That’s about the sum of my knowledge of Mexico. So when I got the offer of a trip to review the Banyan Tree Mayakoba hotel, in Quintana Roo, I couldn’t believe my luck. When I was told I could take my significant other along, I felt as if I’d won the lottery.
I’d been dating Leigh for six months and we were in need of a little sunshine, so we packed our bags and caught an 11-hour flight to Cancun for our first holiday together.
We were seated apart on the plane, but every couple of hours we would meet by the loos for a chat. I could not have been less concerned about travelling with my new fella as we can’t go a day without seeing each other at home.
