It’s been wonderful to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the start of decriminalisation in England and Wales, and to dedicate the previous issue of Attitude to it. But I want to open this month’s magazine with a note of caution — because our battle is still far from won.

A few weeks ago I spent the morning at BBC Broadcasting House, speaking to local radio stat ions about the anniversary. Berkshire, Teesside, Kent — in inter view after inter view I found myself having to explain to straight broadcasters why, now that we have equal rights in (most of) the UK, we still need Pride events.
