Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Director Jeff Nichols once again opens out his limitless imagination, this time in an offbeat telling of a family on the run to protect their gifted son. Midnight Special may be, on the outside, a flashy science fiction flick, but at its core is an often harrowing story of family; with Kirsten Dunst’s loyal and broken mother-figure once again showcasing her underrated talent as an actress. This will probably have you feeling perplexed and unsettled for the most part, but the eerie allure of this enigmatic drama is enough to compel and captivate. APRIL 8TH
