Everything Olivier Rousteing touches turns to gold. Just look at the opulently embellished clothes dripping with gold and silver from his next collection. He was appointed creative director of Balmain at the tender age of 25 — the youngest in Paris since Yves Saint Laurent — and he hit the ground running.

Along with his aptitude for fashion, and an exemplary work ethic, his understanding of social media meant that as other brands fumbled clumsily with their digital identity, Olivier grabbed it and catapulted Balmain to global superiority. A-listers such as Naomi Campbell, Rihanna, Kanye and Kim — plus almost any supermodel you can think of -— have graced his campaigns and worn his clothes. The brand’s Instagram has amassed more than eight million followers. His personal Instagram (which at the time of writing is just shy of five million) is as dazzling and ostentatious as the Balmain clothes he creates: crammed full of candid selfies with his friends such as Beyoncé and Riri, with bursts of metallics and glossy campaigns showcasing the intricate craft that goes into creating every show-stopping dress.
