Cakes & Bakes with JULIET SEAT

Have a little fun with your bakes this month! Make frog-shaped bread rolls for your picnic, decorate avocado cookies and tortilla chips, or bake a homemade bloomer and experiment with tasty bruschetta toppings...

Hello Baking Heaven friends and welcome to our sunny (hopefully!) June issue. I hope all is well with you and you’ve been getting up to lots of gorgeous baking and caking!

I’ve been busy on This Morning doing some summery recipes, working behind the scenes at Shepperton, baking for an exciting movie and also celebrating the new edition of my Kawaii inspired baking book, Cute Bakes! At this time of year, it’s wonderful to take to the outdoors and enjoy some al fresco eating, or packing up some delicious bakes and heading out for a picnic, so this issue is packed full of great ideas to inspire you.

How about trying my adorable avocado cookies? I love decorating the bakes with edible pens and it’s super easy for a fun picnic treat! To keep the kids entertained, why not take some tortilla chips out with you, pack a couple of edible pens and get creative by adding some fun character faces to yours, before dipping them in something delicious and demolishing them.

On the subject of kids, I hope you will love my frog bread rolls. They are quick and easy to make but look really effective and fun, especially once you cut them open and stuff them with your favourite fillings! For a more sophisticated al fresco snack, have a go at baking my easy bloomer loaf and use it for fresh sandwiches, or once it’s a couple of days old, griddle or toast and top with tasty toppings for the ultimate bruschetta platter. YUM!

Frog bread rolls

These jolly rolls are perfect stuffed full of your favourite fillings; brighten up your lunchtime or your lunch box with these characterful tasty treats! Perfect for kids and big kids alike, they are soft and delicious.

MAKES 10-11

 500g (1lb 1oz) Allinson’s strong white bread flour 

175ml (6fl oz) milk 

10g (¼oz) fine sea salt 

10g (¼oz) Billington’s golden caster sugar
