Draft experts said the Bengals should have drafted a left tackle in the first round to protect quarterback Joe Burrow. It made sense, too. Burrow got beat up during his rookie season that ended in a devastating knee injury. Instead, the team opted to reunite him with his favorite college target, receiver Ja’Marr Chase. He was the first receiver off the board, and so far, it looks like a genius move.
Chase was a four-star prospect out of high school in the 2018 recruiting class. Just a year later, he won the Biletnikoff Award as a true sophomore after putting up more than 1,700 yards and 20 touchdowns during LSU’s record-setting National Championship season. Burrow was the Heisman Winner set several passing records commanding what statistically was the greatest offense in college football history.
