S ite insurance is something that every self builder should have from the moment they become a landowner. Fundamentally, it protects you, your plot and your project against a wide variety of risks. However, as with all things related to creating your own home, there are confusing elements and grey areas that are worth understanding before you finalise your policy. Note that the proper term used in the industry is ‘site insurance’, as opposed to ‘self build insurance’. The latter label is sometimes referred to by members of the public as a generic term to include structural warranties.
