Kintyre remembered

It is the season for fond remembrances and I would like to pass some of mine along from when I was one of the earliest Yanks at the drome in the autumn of 1967.

I have total recall of sipping tea and eating gammon sandwiches with a wonderful group of girls in the Locarno on many Saturday afternoons. I was too old, turning 20, but happy to be alive.

I can still remember the smells and taste of kippers and eggs for breakfast.

I clearly recall blistering wind and sleet down Longrow. I remember whin and heather glowing yellow and purple in the summer sun up the side of the Mull from the beach near Southend.

I remember bellowing Auld Lang Syne, very much off key, with a wonderful crowd in the back room of the White Hart.

But mostly I remember gracious hospitality and unsurpassed natural beauty around every turn and over every hill.
