Car ferry link to Northern Ireland refloated

With reference to the Scottish Government study considering berthing options for the Arran ferry service, may I say I remain to be convinced that this is anything other than a penny-pinching exercise by the government to avoid the cost of upgrading the Ardrossan facilities? The solution to the weather risks at Ardrossan is to carry out the work necessary there, not move to Troon.

The Troon option would result in longer journey times to central belt destinations for passengers because of the long uphill walk of a about a mile to the train station. Ardrossan passengers have direct access to the station.

What possible benefit would changing to Troon offer to Campbeltown and the wider Argyll area?

As chairman of the Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands area committee, I have called for a special area meeting to allow for proper debate which, in my opinion, should include a ferry link to Northern Ireland, with Larne the preferred option.
