To my mind, the first time the remix album saved pop – or at least paved the way for an alternative future – was when producer-led, 3D art-pop and synth-pop came to the fore. What better way to take a hit album into another dimension than to remix the entire thing – not just the singles, the entire album – then repackage and re-release it?
