Electronic pioneer William Orbit has announced his first solo release in seven years. Marking his debut for the Anjunadeep label, the four-track Starbeam EP finds the former producer who has helmed major hits for the likes of Madonna, All Saints, Blur and Robbie Williams returning to the music industry after battling personal problems.
In an interview with The Guardian, Orbit admitted his latter-day dabbling in drugs soon spiralled out of control.
“I’d never done coke before and in a short space of time I’d be the guy that could do the most,” he explained candidly. “Then I went to some festivals and did LSD, mushrooms, MDMA, coke, some hormones that everybody was experimenting with… I wasn’t aware of what I was doing and I ended up having a psychotic episode.”
