Shalamar are to tour their classic album Friends to mark its 40th birthday. Released in January 1982, the record delivered four Top 20 hit singles for the American soul outfit – ANight To Remember, I Can Make You Feel Good, There It Is and the title track. The LP itself peaked at No.6 on the UK Albums Chart.
The Friends 40th Anniversary Tour kicks off next June and will be the first time the group have performed the album live. Lead singer Howard Hewett explains: “Throughout the years we’ve played the four hit singles plus varying other tracks from the album but never the whole 10 songs. For a lot of people, Friends was their ‘go-to’ album of the early 80s.”
