The second solo album from The Wombats’ singer Murph is a more personal set, following his 2020 debut, which featured Pixies, Alt-J and Soundgarden. Buoyed by his day-job band confirming their rebirth with a first No.1 LP in 2022, Murph celebrates with an ultrapop workout variously resembling Keane, Haircut 100 and, on Ain’t No Need To Try’s falsetto frenzy, Scissor Sisters. Lyrically, there are travails about keeping a family together, but the gliding basslines and syncopated grooves mean Murph’s vocals are more confident than his doubts would suggest.
