Having traversed the globe countless times over the past 40 years as part of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks vowed that her 2016-17 jaunt, The 24 Karat Gold Tour, would promise something rather different, drawing its setlist predominantly from Nicks’ “dark, gothic trunk of lost songs”.
Arriving onstage resplendent in her trademark attire of shawls and chiffon to a standing ovation befitting a genuine music legend, Nicks launches into Gold And Braid before delivering a two-hour masterclass featuring rare tracks and deep cuts, each introduced by Nicks with a story or anecdote about its creation and collaborators – both Tom Petty and Prince are paid tribute to – lending the show an intimacy that belies its hangarlike setting. “This show is different. It’s not the same Stevie Nicks show you’ve seen a million times because I am not the same Stevie Nicks that you’ve seen a million times,” she announces as she walks onstage.
