Classic Pop revealed The Fizz were working on new material 18 months ago, but when Jay Aston was diagnosed with mouth cancer their plans were thrown into chaos.
The group, featuring three original Bucks Fizz members, return with new album Smoke & Mirrors on 6 March although they feared it could be their last. Cheryl Baker explained: “We had no time to think about what was going on because we had to get all of Jay’s vocals down before she had her operation. Nobody knew what was going to happen afterwards. She went into the studio first of all and did all her parts – including the harmonies – then Mike [Nolan] and I went in afterwards.”
