Sometimes it’s hard to define why one album that sounds like it could be decades old works and another one doesn’t, but Def Leppard’s 12th is going to defy most of the folk who consider them hoary old rockers. Sure, those obsessed with innovation may still mock them, but Diamond Star Halos, its title taken from Marc Bolan’s Get it On – though glam’s influence isn’t that evident here beyond Kick’s chunky “Na Na Na” chorus – is chock-ablock full of undeniably immediate, escapist, blockbuster anthems whose pleasures only a killjoy could deny.
