Two tracks in, one might wonder what the point is of the latest album from this branch of the troubled UB40 production line.
A cover of The Frightnrs’ What Have I Done is polished but unadventurous and Ali Campbell’s We’ll Never Find Another Love provides yet another melodically strong but gloopy tune. But then the dub-heavy title track strides in, offering an acerbic take on the pandemic, Astro mourning “Our doctors and our nurses, dying/ All the politicians, lying,” and one recalls the group’s history of political commentary. They’re at it again, too, on Emperors Wore No Clothes, taking a swipe at politicians.
