Rather than being the perfect realisation of a promoter’s dream, Pet Shop Boys’ jointUnity tour with New Order in North America last winter was Chris Lowe’s idea. “We love New Order,” beams Chris. “Not just the band, their whole operation. I thought: ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to hang out on the road with them for a bit?’
“But I didn’t want anyone to know it was my idea. Bernard Sumner is hilarious, and I knew he’d be merciless if the tour didn’t work. He’d be going (excellent Sumner impression): ‘This is all your fault, Chris.’”
