A recent recruit to Blondie, the punk veteran harks back to his Pistols days on a politically astute album with music as flinty as his attacks on the establishment. While Matlock’s anger is palpable, strong riffs and choruses prevent him being heavy-handed, with the title track and Speaking In Tongues rattling good rock’n’roll more than treatises. Vamping vaudeville and sleazy blues on OTT tales of heartbreak have a glint in their eye, as he even finds room for a barroom take on kd lang’s Constant Craving. It’s a worthwhile rare solo trip.
