Begun on a songwriters’ camp hosted by Beck, where she created the escapist Puppy And A Truck – the video features a Harry Styles cameo – Jenny Lewis’ fifth solo LP is up there with Rilo Kiley’s More Adventurous among her finest. Lewis embraces her country moods, most explicitly on the joyous Love Feel, but she’s also divine as Dusty on Essence Of Life, while Cherry Baby is perfect featherlight pop. Always expert at conveying the maximum of emotion with the minimum amount of fuss, these largely acoustic waltzes have the musical poise to match.
