MAGNETIC SKIES
EMPIRE FALLING
VIA BANDCAMP
★★★★
Formed back in 2019 as a studio-based duo inspired by a shared love of 80s synth-driven post-punk, London-based Magnetic Skies deliver their long-awaited debut album as a fourpiece – and it’s well worth the wait. Glacial, analogue electronic textures abound, often melded with juggernaut choruses. That’s best evidenced via the soaring You Shine On, while the Cure-like gravitas of Suffocate, the shimmering Outside, and bass-driven Fading Lights are further highlights. Propulsive and melodic, their songcraft impresses throughout.
