Back in the day, artists were assumed to have reasons for locking away unreleased recordings, but in the streaming era such material, in standard, deluxe and super-deluxe editions, is what keeps many record company execs in suits.
Fortunately, what held Prince back was labels who couldn’t handle his prolific nature, and his famed vault therefore invites less trepidation than most. So, here we have it: his third posthumous ‘new’ LP, joining four expanded albums and three live collections released since he died five years ago.
