Anthony Matarese has been at the top of his game for the last 20 years, with a place on the US shooting team since he was a junior. was the first American to win the World English Sporting Championship, which is a title he took in 2016 at EJ Churchill. Shooting is his life - he has his own ground, M&M Sporting Clays, hosting some of the biggest championships in the US. He also teaches five days a week and has helped his students progress to national and international level. Plus he remains a top level competitor himself, shooting anywhere from 500 to 1,200 shells a week for three or four weeks leading up to a major championship.

He began his shooting career at the age of ten, growing up on a hunting reserve and shooting ground. Despite that he doesn’t consider himself a natural shot. “I certainly don’t think that I am one of the most talented people, but I grew up in a family where there was always more work to do than time to do it. So while I didn’t have natural ability, as a kid I had a coach who I believed in, and a work ethic that encouraged me to study the game - and that’s made up for it.”
