Trap shooters have a full calendar again, with competitions on a good number of weekends until the end of October. I’ve been keeping busy helping at competitions at Nuthampstead as well as coaching. Two championships took place a week apart - one at Nuthampstead and then the following weekend at Fauxdegla.
Universal Trench UK Championships
The August Bank Holiday weekend saw Nuthampstead Shooting Ground host their first major competition of 2020, with the UK UT Championships attracting 86 competitors to compete over 200 targets shot over two days. At the end of a cold and blustery Day 1, it was close at the top of the scoreboard. Matt Panter and Rod Gould led the way with 97, closely followed by Lee Betts on 96, Nathan Hales on 95, Kevin Borley and Chris Dean on 94. The top scoring lady was Kath Bright on a 91 with Sue Bate on 88 and Charlotte Hollands on 87.
Weather conditions improved slightly for the second day and in the end Rod Gould was top of the leaderboard and became the 2020 UK UT Champion with a score of 194, Nathan Hales was second with 193 and Matt Panter was third on 192. In the ladies competition, Charlotte Hollands shot a perfect 25-straight in her last round to finish on 178 to win gold, with Kath Bright scoring 173 to take silver and Sue Bate finishing on 168 to take bronze.
In the juniors category Tom Betts won gold with a solid 181 while Michael Bovingdon taking silver with his score of 178 and Lucas Hyde on 172 taking bronze. British Shooting’s OT coach Chris Dean won the veteran’s category with 187, Metin Cenkci took silver. Bronze went to Chris Tate after impressive shooting in a shoot off against John Russo and Norman Eaton.
