How did you get into shooting?
“As a kid, the first time I picked up a gun was to head out and chase dove and quail with my father, in South Georgia. My passion for the outdoors grew, and as a kid most days I’d be out looking or fishing for something – but I’d never shot a clay target. Around the age of 23, a friend asked me to come along to shoot a round of Skeet with him. At the time, I was shooting a Remington Model 1100, a hunting semi-auto with a 26in barrel and fixed choke. On my first round I killed 23 ex-25, then the next round I shot 24 ex-25. ‘Let’s go one more time,’ he said. ‘I think you can hit them all’ – and I did, 25 ex-25. Eventually I started shooting Sporting Clays. I thought why not, it has no seasons or limits, so the birds are there for me to shoot all year round!”
