That empty feeling

Clearing out the cottage is both heartbreaking and Herculean-level hard. Unless you’re this guy

In Like Zim

Not too long ago I was elected to clean out our family cottage, the repository of cherished memories and mountains of stuff collected during our 48-year tenure. It was a full and thorough evacuation of every accrued chattel and possession prior to selling the joint. I won’t lie to you: the prospect of this chore filled me with dread, my personal version of Hercules’ Fifth Labour, when the big guy had to muck out the Augean Stables. I’ve emptied a few households over the years and it’s usually a pretty straightforward affair involving a dumpster, a moving van, dragooned helpers, and a few hundred bucks’ worth of beer and pizza. But clearing out a water-access cottage with multiple outbuildings using only a 16-foot aluminum boat and a landscaping trailer? That’s an entirely different barrel of trash.
