It’ll require us to hold it in our hearts all year to make the 2019 best-of lists, but the first new album in over 30 years by LA’s alt-country scene-makers is such a significant resurgence, that won’t be a problem. The vintage Long Ryders lineup of Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy, Tom Stevens and Greg Sowders reconvened in the improbable milieu of Dr Dre’s studio – long story, but a close friend of yesteryear, who now works for the hip-hop figurehead, afforded them the state-of-the-art access, and they couldn’t say no. Praise be.
