The artist Frida Kahlo spoke of many challenges in her life, as an artist, a woman and the survivor of a horrific bus accident when she was a child. Often in pain, and frequently alone, she wrote in her diary about the freedom she found through her painting. In the 2008 project Post Secret, Rebecca Katherine Martin sent her secret (shown left) along with a picture of Kahlo. The quote is now firmly associated with Kahlo (to whom it is often misattributed), and the need to seek female recognition in art.
