My wife and I have been together almost 11 years and married for nearly six. We live in Preston with our two-and-a-halfyear-old twins, Alice and Joseph. If I had to describe my family in five words, I’d choose happy, smiley, special, amazing and perfect.
We used IVF to conceive, and I carried them. The twins were born prematurely, by six weeks. They were tiny, weighing just over three pounds each. Thankfully they were healthy, but we were blindsided by it, and felt like the medical team weren’t truly supportive. I was always referred to as mum, when we were (and are) both mums.
We get funny reactions when we’re out and about as a family. Perfect strangers assume they can ask personal questions, like how the kids were conceived, and “who is mum?”. Others are over the top with their support, telling us how “amazing” it is that we’ve had kids.
