Since I saw my first crush singing onstage in a school talent show 18 years ago, I have – for whatever reason – made a habit of getting hot and bothered over people I can’t have. And I’m certainly not alone.
Amy, 19, was captivated by her best friend. “Sally befriended another girl, Natalie, and the three of us hung out together – but eventually Sally drifted away from us,” she tells DIVA. “So it was just me and Natalie left.” Amy unexpectedly ended up spellbound by Natalie. “She was so cute and smiley,” she says. “But every boy fancied her. I would always get them asking me who she liked and if they should ask her out and in my head I was like, ‘No, she’s mine!’ Anyway, I broke up with my boyfriend and realised that I was bisexual and saw women the same way I saw men. Natalie became a part of me. She was my best friend, and my family.”
