The Future Foretold, the Past Explained

David Fisher, author of some of the Fourth Doctor’s most vivid adventures, died on 10 January, aged 88.
The Doctor (Tom Baker) narrowly escapes being sacrificed in Part Two of The Stones of Blood (1978).

Something extraordinary happens 17-and-a-half minutes into the third episode of The Stones of Blood (1978). Until now, we’ve been inside a stone circle, at night, with the eccentric Professor Rumford (Beatrix Lehmann) and the robot dog K9, who’ve been guarding a device built by the Doctor (Tom Baker) in order to transport himself into hyperspace to rescue his companion (it’s a long story). The circle has come under attack from two living monoliths – the stones of the title – but now these ‘Ogri’ have retreated, to ‘recharge’ themselves…
