Hey Missy!

Eight months since Missy’s demise in The Doctor Falls, Michelle Gomez is back voicing the character for a new game. “It’s going to be really hard to shake this one off,” she says…
“Missy’s off doing other things,” says Michelle Gomez.

Who in their right mind is going to go under the mistletoe with Missy?”

We were just asking Michelle Gomez whether she was disappointed not to be part of the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas Special, Twice Upon a Time. It was Peter Capaldi’s grand goodbye, featuring all his past companions, a returning villain and even two of the show’s writers (Mark Gatiss and Toby Whithouse) for good measure. Yet Missy, having been seemingly killed during the previous episode, was nowhere to be seen.

“I went to a screening [of the Christmas Special], and it was just so romantic and beautiful,” says Michelle. “But Missy’s off doing other things for a minute. God knows what.”

Presumably still lying on the floor of that colony ship from The Doctor Falls, where she was left unable to regenerate after being shot by her former self. It was a suitably poetic ending for the character, who had spent much of the series trying to move on from her villainous past, only for that past to physically manifest itself (in the form of John Simm’s Master) and refuse to let her go.
