VISITING THE HUMAN COLONY MENDORAX DELLORA, the Doctor is reunited with River Song. She fails to recognise his latest incarnation, instead mistaking him for the surgeon she’s summoned to operate on her near-dead husband, King Hydroflax. River explains that Hydroflax has the priceless Halassi Androvar diamond lodged in his brain and her real objective, rather than saving him, is acquiring the diamond. She instructs the Doctor to remove Hydroflax’s head.

Hydroflax overhears this and confronts the pair, revealing that his body is cybernetic by removing his own still-living head. In the ensuing melee, the Doctor and River escape with Hydroflax’s head. Still not recognising the Doctor, River lets herself in to the TARDIS. It refuses to lock its doors and dematerialise while registering Hydroflax as being only partially within the ship. Suddenly, Hydroflax’s cyborg body, which has been tracking them, bursts in, enabling the TARDIS to depart. It quickly lands in the hold of a luxury spaceliner, into which River and the Doctor flee from the rampaging robot.
