WAKANDA FOREVER. Two words, uttered by the great Chadwick Boseman 28 minutes into 2018’s Black Panther, which immediately took on a life of their own. As bold as the film they featured in, they’ve inspired millions, who saw themselves represented on screen at last in a spectacular, huge-budget Black superhero movie. Those words stood for hope, pride, a vibrant new future.
But in 2020, with Boseman’s tragic passing, there was suddenly a question mark after them. With its star gone, how could this story possibly go on? Well, fortunately, the answer was already with us, in the form of another quote from Boseman’s T’Challa: “The Black Panther has been a protector of Wakanda for generations. A mantle passed from warrior to warrior.”
