Practical tips

I’d like to take a DNA test. What do I need to do?

Q I am very interested in taking a DNA test but am unsure how to proceed. Research into my paternal family (ie my maiden name) shows that my 2x great-grandfather born in 1810 was illegitimate. I would mention that I have a ‘bastardy bond’ with a named father but no further information. I have a certain amount of interest in the wider ancestry which would be available but realise the limitations of such results.
