Delving into my DNA…

A tempting online offer saw Diane Lindsay buy a genetic genealogy test, but spicy lentil soup almost put paid to her plans to delve deeper into her past

Turning to science

It was a Black Whichever Day Sale that did it. Not that I entirely agree with those marketing ploys, having quite enough stuff that I don’t really need and a whole lot more that I convince myself I do need, mostly in precariously balanced shoe boxes marked ‘To File’ and ‘Pending’ or ‘Memorabilia: Dad’ etc. A weekly visit to the hospice secondhand bookshop is mostly all I allow myself these days by way of a musthave bargain. But window shopping online is just too easy. You spend a few minutes browsing and before you know it you own a 25-metre roll of black one-inch elastic (surprisingly useful) and at half-price a £7 pair of travel hair straighteners (naff).
