Thoughts on Family Tree Live, free websites and ideas for family history society meetings…

An intriguing day out

I’m contacting you regarding the recent Family Tree Live event at Alexandra Palace. It was such a great day that I felt compelled to write to you about my experience. I booked two tickets for the Family Tree Live exhibition in early January.

It seemed such a long time away at the time! We visited the exhibition on Friday 26 April. The day of the event finally dawned and, with great excitement, my husband and myself boarded the shuttle bus outside Wood Green station and we were off! It was to prove a day of great discoveries for both of us. We spent most of the day talking to various exhibitors, including the Kent Family History Society, of which I am a member. We also found out that there is in existence a local branch of a family history society not too far from where we live in Staffordshire. We intend to visit them at their next meeting!

I’d booked to attend two of the lectures. Having seafaring ancestors I was particularly interested in Keith Gregson’s talk, appropriately called, ‘All at Sea’. The talk introduced its listeners to information about a variety of trades connected with the sea. Hailing from a coastal county I have various ancestors who worked in maritime industries during the 19th century, including shipbuilders (two of my ancestors were shipwrights) and a few mariners and fishermen.
